Construction Skills Essential Electrics
Who is the Course aimed at?
This Course is suitable for plumbers, gas fitters and heating and ventilating engineers whose work requires basic electrical knowledge and an understanding of electrical regulations.
What does the Course cover?
The Course is designed to enable candidates to meet the following assessment criteria:
- Recognise & calculate electrical quantities
- Identify common supply system arrangements
- Measure voltage, current and resistance values
- Identify any possible contraventions of the Electricity at Work Regulations
- Safely isolate electrical equipment and circuits
- Survey an installation for electrical bonding
- Install bonding conductors
The Assessment has been designed to test ability in the basic working procedures, standards and legislative requirements relating to work on or near electrically operated equipment.
Why should I attend this Course?
The Course enables candidates to understand and work to the Electricity at Work Act 1989.
How long does the Course take?
This Course is delivered over two days with the Assessments taking place in the afternoon of the second day.
What does it cost and what is included?
The total cost is £275 + VAT. This includes all revision, study notes, Assessment and certification fees. For this Course we require a £200 deposit to confirm a booking.
Full Course fees will be charged for cancellations within 21 days of the Course date (unless we cancel due to insufficient student numbers or you have made prior agreement with us regarding your reason for possible non-attendance).
What happens after the Course?
Once we have internally verified your paperwork (we have 10 working days after you have completed your Assessment in which to do this, providing we have all your relevant paperwork) we send it off to Construction Skills to be processed and uploaded. This can take up to six weeks.
Once this process is complete, you will receive a certificate and card directly from Construction Skills.
What does the Assessment involve?
To pass this Course, it is necessary to successfully complete two Assessments - a 20 minute open book question paper and a 1½ hour practical assessment.
How do I book a place?
The easiest and quickest way to book a place on this Course is to telephone the office (Burgess Hill Centre: 01444 870860 or Portsmouth Centre: 02392 190190) and speak to one of our advisers. They will be able to discuss dates and availability with you and can take payment by debit/credit card to confirm your place.
Alternatively, you can email us for dates and availability or, if we have already sent you a booking form, you can complete and return it with your payment. It’s important that all bookings are sent to the Burgess Hill centre – details can be found on the Centre Information Sheet/Map.
Please note that all places are sold on a first come, first served basis. Places can only be confirmed on receipt of payment. We would advise that you check availability with us before returning your booking form.
What should I do to prepare for the Course?
After you have confirmed your place, we will send you a booking confirmation, timetable, invoice and Application for Assessment form.
Please complete the Application for Assessment form and return it to us with two recent passport photographs. A COMPLETED APPLICATION FOR ASSESSMENT MUST BE RETURNED TO SECURE YOUR PLACE.
We will hand out study notes on day 1 of the Course.
What should I bring with me for the Course?
You must bring the following with you for the Course:
- Pen, paper and calculator
- Two passport size photos (if not already supplied)
