City & Guilds 2391-20 - Certificate in Design, Erection and Verification of Election Installations

Who is the Course aimed at?

This scheme is intended for electricians with practical experience of inspection and testing of electrical installations, who require to become certificated in the design, erection and verification of electrical installations.

It is intended for personnel who have responsibility for the quality of the design, specification, installation, and inspection and testing processes.  This qualification was previously certificated under the qualification 2400 Design, Erection and Verification of Electrical Installations.

While it is not a scheme requirement that candidates hold a full City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (2391-01 or 2391-10) to enable them to do this Course, candidates must have completed the practical Assessment component (2391-302) before they can claim their full 2391-20 certificate.

What does the Course cover?

All aspects of installation design including detailed circuit design calculations to the 17th Edition are covered on the course.

The qualification addresses, in particular, the implications of the Wiring Regulations for Electrical Installations in relation to the design and erection of new electrical installations.

Why should I attend this Course?

This Course provides candidates with a full insight into circuit design and verification and provides candidates with the ability to design installations with confidence.

How long does the Course take?

The Course is delivered as four days theory revision and candidates are required to complete a City & Guilds set project (requiring a minimum of 20 hours work) in their own time after the course.  Candidates will also be required to attend on one evening (date and time as set by City & Guilds) for the written examination.

What does it cost and what is included?

The total cost for the Course is £535 + VAT.  This price includes all revision, course handouts, Assessment and certification fees.  We require a deposit of £300 to confirm your place.

Late entry deadlines apply to this Course and these deadlines are approximately 6 weeks prior to the written examination date.  If you wish to book onto a Course within the late entry period an additional charge of £130 + VAT is payable to cover the City & Guilds late entry fees.

What happens after the Course?

Once you have completed all of the Assessment components, your project result (and practical result where necessary) will be uploaded to City & Guilds and your written paper will be sent off to a City & Guilds Examiner for marking.

Results (and certificates where applicable) will be sent to us approximately 8 weeks after the written examination date.  We will then write to you with notification of your examination result enclosing your certificate if all components have been taken and passed.  We are not permitted to give assessment results over the telephone.

What does the Assessment involve?

There are three parts to the Assessment for this Course:

  1. One 3 hour, open-book evening written examination (time and date set by City & Guilds) which consists of 10 questions (component 2391-303)
  2. One City & Guilds set project (requiring a minimum of 20 hours work) in order to demonstrate your ability to design, to consider erection methods for a typical installation and to demonstrate practical competence in testing and inspection (component 2391-304)
  3. If not already taken as part of the 2391-10 qualification, one half-day practical Assessment to demonstrate your practical testing and inspecting ability (component 2391-302)
