City & Guilds 2377 - Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT Testing)

Who is the Course aimed at?

This qualification is designed for those involved in the inspection and testing of electrical equipment and/or managing the process.

There are two certificates available:

  • 2377-11 Certificate of Management of Electrical Equipment Maintenance
  • 2377-12 Certificate for the Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment

Candidates for the Inspection and Testing certificate must be practising electricians and candidates are required to undertake a practical test to evaluate their ability to conduct testing.

What does the Course cover?

The Course is designed around the IEE Code of Practice for In Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.

Two Courses/examinations are available, one aimed at technical managers, supervisors, etc who are managing the portable appliance testing process and/or testers, to enable them to understand the legislative and procedural requirements associated with equipment maintenance, and the other at operatives who carry out the tests.

Why should I attend this Course?

Successful completion of this Course results in nationally recognisable evidence of an individual’s competence in Portable Appliance Testing.

How long does the Course take?

We offer the 2377-11 as examination-only unless a one-day revision course is specifically requested (minimum candidate requirements may apply).

We offer the 2377-12 as a one-day Course with the on-line examination in the afternoon.

What does it cost and what is included?

The total cost for the 2377-12 is £165 + VAT.  This includes all revision, course handouts, assessment and certification fees.  For this Course we require payment in full to confirm a booking.

The examination-only fee for the 2377-11 is £150 + VAT.  Revision Courses for this certificate will be priced on request.

Full Course fees will be charged for cancellations within 21 days of the Course date (unless we cancel due to insufficient student numbers or you have made prior agreement with us regarding your reason for possible non-attendance).

What happens after the Course?

Once you have completed the on-line examination, your results will be uploaded to City & Guilds who will issue a certificate within approximately two weeks.  This certificate is then sent to us for checking and providing that all the details are correct we will forward it to you.

What does the Assessment involve?

The examination for the 2377-11 (Management) certificate is a 1½ hour, 45 question, on-line, open-book examination.

The examination for the 2377-12 (Inspection and Testing) certificate is a 1 hour, 30 question, on-line, open-book examination.  Prior to taking the on-line exam, candidates are required to complete a practical Assessment to demonstrate their ability to undertake the practical inspection and testing of an item of Class 1 equipment and correctly complete the relevant forms (V1.1 and V1.2).  Candidates may use their own equipment for this assessment.

If you would like to see what the GOLA examination programme is like prior to attending, we can email a dummy test to you.  Please contact us for details.
