City & Guilds 2382 - Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS 7671:2008) (17th Edition)

Who is the Course aimed at?

This qualification is aimed at practising electricians with relevant experience and is intended to ensure that they comply with the format, content and applications of the requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671 (June 2008).

There are two qualification routes available: 2382-10 and 2382-20.  Both the 2382-10 and 2382-20 offer the same level of qualification, i.e. The City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS7671 June 2008).  

The 2382-10 is intended for candidates who have the City & Guilds 2380 qualification, or those who do not have a City & Guilds 16th Edition qualification.

The 2382-20 is for candidates who can provide evidence (e.g. copy of original City & Guilds certificate) of one of the following City & Guilds qualifications: 2381, 2330-07, 2330-08 or Level 3 2360 (from January 2004 onwards).

What does the Course cover?

The Course covers topics such as protection for safety, selection and erection of equipment and inspection and testing to meet the standards of the IEE Wiring Regulations.

Why should I attend this Course?

Completion of this qualification provides evidence that you are working to the latest wiring regulations.  

Successful learners could progress to our qualifications in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (2392-10 & 2391-10) or in Design, Erection and Verification of Electrical Installations (2391-20).

How long does the Course take?

The 2382-10 is available as a three day revision Course with exam on a fourth day.

The 2382-20 is either available as a three day revision Course with the exam at the end of day three, or as a one day revision Course with the exam on a second day.

What does it cost and what is included?

The total cost for the Courses are as follows:

  • 2382-10 is £365 + VAT
  • 2382-20 (3 day) is £345 + VAT
  • 2382-20 (1 day) is £165 + VAT

These prices include all revision, course handouts, assessment and certification fees.  We require minimum deposits of £100 to confirm all bookings.

What happens after the Course?

Once you have completed the on-line examination, your results will be uploaded to City & Guilds who will issue a certificate within approximately two weeks.  This certificate is then sent to us for checking and providing that all the details are correct we will forward it to you.

What does the Assessment involve?

The 2382-10 has a 60 question, multiple choice, 2 hour online GOLA exam on a fourth day.

The 2382-20 has a 1 hour online GOLA exam consisting of 30 multiple choice questions.  If you are doing the 3 day revision Course the exam takes place at the end of the third day.  If you are doing the 1 day revision Course the exam takes place on a second day.

How do I book a place?

Alternatively, you can email us for dates and availability or, if we have already sent you a booking form, you can complete and return it with your payment.  It’s important that all bookings are sent to the Burgess Hill centre – details can be found on the Centre Information Sheet/Map.

Please note that all places are sold on a first come, first served basis.  Places can only be confirmed on receipt of payment.  We would advise that you check availability with us before returning your booking form.

What should I do to prepare for the Course?

After you have confirmed your place, we will send you a booking confirmation, timetable and receipted invoice.  Please contact the office immediately should any of these items be missing from your booking confirmation package.

Books are available to buy from the IET, from electrical suppliers such as City Electrical Factors and Medlocks Electrical, from bookshops or from on-line retailers such as Amazon.

City & Guilds have also released two "Exam Success: IEE Wiring Regulations" books for the 2382-10 (ISBN: 978-0-86341-885-3, approx. £12) and 2382-20 (ISBN: 978-0-86341-886-0, approx. £12).  These are available from bookshops and on-line retailers and you may find them helpful if you wish to do any pre-course study.

What should I bring with me for the Course?

You must bring the following with you for the Course:

  • Requirements for Electrical Installations IEE Wiring Regulations Seventeenth Edition (BS 7671:2008) (ISBN 978-0-86341-844-0, approx. £65)
  • Pen, paper and non-programmable scientific calculator
  • Photo I.D. such as passport, driving licence or company I.D. card (you will not be allowed to sit the on-line examination without this)
