Oil Scheme Entry Requirements
There are three Categories used within the Industry to describe a candidate's experience prior to taking Oil Assessments. These Categories are as follows:
Category 1 Applicants:
If you are renewing an existing OFTEC qualification, you are considered to be a Category 1 Applicant.
Training prior to undertaking assessment is not mandatory, however in most cases it is recommended to ensure that operatives are aware of the most recent changes to legislation, British Standards and industry best practice. It should be noted that attendance for training will not influence the independent impartial assessment which is carried out under the control of a recognised certification body.
Evidence of your existing OFTEC qualification/s (photocopy of your certificate/s) is required for all Category 1 Applicants.
Important Note: If candidates are returning to extend their range within 12 months of previous assessment, there is no requirement to do day 1 or 600a Underpinning Knowledge revision.
Category 2 Applicants:
You are considered to be a Category 2 Applicant if ONE of the following applies to you:
- you already hold an OFTEC qualification and wish to add other categories
- you have a recognised qualifications and experience in plumbing, heating and ventilation or gas.
Category 2 Applicants must undertake training.
It is necessary for Category 2 Applicants to attend our 3 day Oil Introduction Course (OFT 50 equivalent) prior to attending oil assessment category courses.
Category 3 Applicants:
If you are new to the oil industry and do not have and qualifications or experience in a related trade (plumbing, heating and ventilation or gas) you are considered to be a Category 3 Applicant.
Category 3 Applicants may also be people who are entering employment or changing career direction.
Category 3 Applicants should undertake an apprenticeship/NVQ or undertake an extended period of training and obtain a portfolio of evidence. Once satisfactory evidence has been produced, candidates may attend the 3 day Oil Introduction Course (OFT 50 equivalent) followed by the relevant training and assessment courses for the required oil assessment categories.
