Solar Thermal Hot Water (including CoSHH, Manual Handling and Working at Heights)

Who is the Course aimed at?

This Course has been designed to provide experienced heating and plumbing engineers the necessary skills for basic design, installation, commission and service of Solar Thermal Hot Water systems and deliver a certificate of competence to individuals who will self-certify installations through their nominated registration body e.g. NICEIC Microgeneration Certification Scheme.

Candidates must possess and be able to provide evidence of an Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems qualification to qualify for this course.

What does the Course cover?

This Course is made up of two parts: Solar Thermal Hot Water and Health and Safety (CoSHH, Manual Handling and Working at Heights).

The first part of the Course will ensure that candidates are aware of the regulations and legislation relating to CoSHH, Manual Handling and Working at Heights.

The second part of the Course covers basic design; relevant regulations and legislation; collector types; design layouts; pre-survey techniques and installation practices; commissioning and service; fault finding and controls for Solar Thermal Hot Water.

Why should I attend this Course?

This qualification has been developed for individuals who wish to demonstrate competence to work on the installation of Solar Thermal Systems.  Successful candidates will be able to use the award to enable them to join a competent person's scheme.

How long does the Course take?

The Course is delivered as one day per week for two weeks (a total of 2 days) - one day will be Health & Safety and the other will be Solar.  Each day consists of just over half a days revision with the remaining time used to complete the assessment.

What does it cost and what is included?

The total cost for the Course is £385 plus VAT.  This fee is inclusive of revision (£60 plus VAT) and assessment (£200 plus VAT), certification (£80 plus VAT) and the Study Pack (£45 plus VAT).  We require a minimum deposit of £200 to confirm your place.

An Assessment-only scheme is available at a cost of £280 plus VAT (Assessment at £200 plus VAT and certification at £80 plus VAT).  This assumes that you do not need to purchase a Study Pack.

What happens after the Course?

Once we have internally verified your paperwork (we have 10 working days after you have completed your Assessment in which to do this, providing we have all your relevant paperwork and any related invoices have been cleared) we send it off to the certification body to be processed.  This can take up to 20 working days.

Once this process is complete, you will receive a certificate directly from the certification body.

What does the Assessment involve?

To pass this Course, it is necessary to successfully complete a mixture of written and practical assessments.
