Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999

Who is the Course aimed at?

Experienced plumbers who want to become approved contractors for water undertakers, local authorities, housing associations etc.  The Course is also suited to others who inspect or design plumbing installations for compliance with the current water regulations.

What does the Course cover?

The Course covers thirteen learning modules: background and legislation; the Regulations; materials and substances in contact with water; requirements for water fittings; water system design and installation; commissioning (flushing, testing and disinfection); prevention of cross connection to unwholesome water; backflow prevention; cold water services; hot water services; WCs, flushing devices and urinals; sanitary appliances; water for outside use.

Why should I attend this Course?

Under the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, water undertakers can appoint approved contractors for the area they cover. Holding a BPEC/WRAS Certificate should prove that your knowledge of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 is good enough for you to become an approved contractor provided you meet the other criteria laid down by the water undertakers.

Approved contractors do not need to notify certain installations that non-approved contractors must notify. Water undertakers will compile lists of approved contractors, which the general public will use, and it is possible that local authorities and housing associations will insist that plumbing contractors are approved contractors.

How long does the Course take?

This Course can be completed in one day (8:30am to approximately 5:30pm) provided candidates read the BPEC study notes and complete the home study tasks before attending.

What does it cost and what is included?

The fee for the complete Course is £194.50 + VAT.  This includes your BPEC Study Pack and all revision, Assessment and certification fees.

An Assessment-only route is available if required, but it is essential that the candidate has a thorough understanding of the regulations as no technical guidance or support can be given.  Please ask for further details.

Note:  The above fee will be discounted where the applicant has a copy of the BPEC pre-Course study pack or the Assessment only option is selected.

What happens after the Course?

Once we have internally verified your paperwork (we have 10 working days after you have completed your Assessment in which to do this, providing we have all your relevant paperwork) we send it off to BPEC to be processed.  This can take up to six weeks.

Once this process is complete, you will receive a certificate directly from BPEC.

What does the Assessment involve?

To pass this Course, it is necessary to pass an open book written Assessment.  This is a multiple choice question paper requiring at least 70% at first attempt and at least 80% after the second attempt in Parts A & B.

How do I book a place?

The easiest and quickest way to book a place on this Course is to telephone the office (Burgess Hill Centre: 01444 870860 or Portsmouth Centre: 02392 190190) and speak to one of our advisers.  They will be able to discuss dates and availability with you and can take payment by debit/credit card to confirm your place.

Alternatively, you can email us for dates and availability or, if we have already sent you a booking form, you can complete and return it with your payment.  It’s important that all bookings are sent to the Burgess Hill centre – details can be found on the Centre Information Sheet/Map.

Please note that all places are sold on a first come, first served basis.  Places can only be confirmed on receipt of payment.  We would advise that you check availability with us before returning your booking form.

What should I do to prepare for the Course?

After you have confirmed your place, we will send you a booking confirmation, timetable, invoice and application for Assessment form.  We will also order your study pack from BPEC who then send it directly to your address.

  1. Please complete the Application for Assessment form and return it to us with two recent passport photographs.  A COMPLETED APPLICATION FOR ASSESSMENT MUST BE RETURNED TO SECURE YOUR PLACE.
  2. It is essential that you read and complete the study pack prior to the Course.  Candidates can take as long as they like to prepare for the revision and Assessment Course by working through all the questions in the BPEC pre-course study manuals.  At Steve Willis Training and Assessment Centres Ltd we recommend a period of four weeks home study (minimum of 14 hours per week) prior to attendance.  Time is limited on the day and you will need to be familiar with the contents of the study pack to help you in the Assessment.

What should I bring with me for the Course?

You must bring the following with you for the Course:

  • BPEC Study Pack
  • Pen, paper and calculator
  • WRAS Guide (if available)
  • Two passport size photos (if not already supplied)

Please ensure that you bring in all of the BPEC Study Pack on day one as this includes a voucher towards your final certification.
