National Apprenticeship Week 2022 - Charlie Haggar

7th February 2022

Charlie Haggar - 3rd Year Electrical Apprentice

What made you apply for an apprenticeship?

I’ve always been a hands-on learner so I knew an apprenticeship was going to be the right path for me. Since I’ve started I’ve really been able to engage with what I’m learning.

How has it been training at Steve Willis Training?

SWT really stands out from other colleges, the workshops are all well equipped and the trainers are experts in their fields. Most importantly you get treated as an individual, the trainers care about your development and push you to get the most out of your apprenticeship.

What has been the best part of your apprenticeship?

My trainers Jeff, Adrian & Chris have been great at teaching us new skills and answering any questions we have. Any questions I think of on site I can take to them knowing they’ll be able to explain or teach me something new.

What other skills have you learnt from your apprenticeship?

In terms of other skills, I would say my social interactions and people skills have developed since starting my apprenticeship. This helps me with how I present myself on site and in the centre.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship to others?

I think an apprenticeship is a route everybody should consider when thinking about their education. An apprenticeship is a great opportunity for people that want to continue learning but don’t necessarily want to spend 5 days a week in a classroom. My apprenticeship gives me a great combination of on-site experience and classroom learning which suits my style of learning.
