Aimed at those looking to start a new career in commercial gas (eg heating, plant or pipework), or with a very limited knowledge of the gas industry, this course will give you a high quality, structured route to becoming a fully qualified gas engineer.

The course provides candidates with the skills, knowledge and experience required in order to become Gas Safe Registered. If you are looking for a gas qualification which is both recognised and respected in the gas industry then this is the course for you.

Steve Willis Training delivers a complete programme with a strong focus on quality - quality training, quality facilities, quality support and quality gas engineers. Come and see our training centres for yourself and compare them with other providers, contact us to arrange a visit.

This programme is delivered "On and Off Job." The Off-Job training takes place as day release over 24 days at one of our centres and includes theory and practical training.

You will also need to complete a Portfolio of Evidence as you work alongside a Gas Safe Registered engineer. This On-Job work experience is an essential part of the programme, and is how you'll develop genuine knowledge and experience as you demonstrate your competency compiling your Portfolio. You should complete this required period of up to 150 days On-Job experience within 12 months of starting the programme. To do this, you'll need to be flexible and if necessary be prepared to work evenings and/or weekends and not limit yourself to a small geographical area. The 150 days may be reduced to a minimum of 50 days if you already hold an approved qualification, our sales team will be able to advise you based on any previous experience. Securing work experience placements with Gas Safe Registered engineers / companies is your responsibility, but we may be able to help you. Tips on how to find a work placement can been found in our information sheet (CIS 019).

After you have completed your Portfolio and training, your ACS assessments are planned - including both revision and the assessments. Once you have successfully completed the Core Commercial Gas Safety Assessment (COCN1), you may progress to the Appliance Assessment categories included in the GGFO package:

  • CIGA1 (commercial heating plant)
  • or with prior agreement CIGA1 may be substituted for any other single appliance category eg CDGA1 (direct fired commercial appliances) or CORT1 (overhead radiant and tube heaters).

Details of all assessments can be found on the EU Skills website

Successful completion of the ACS Assessments will mean you can apply for registration with Gas Safe Register.

Further information may be found in the course information sheet - CIS 017.

Steve Willis Training also offer Domestic and Commercial Gas Catering GGFO Managed Learning Programmes.
