Steve Willis Training Centres have recently launched taster sessions for local schools near our Burgess Hill and Portchester centres. These engaging sessions aim to introduce pupils to the world of apprenticeships and specifically focus on gas and heating engineering and electrical installation.
As part of our commitment to promoting vocational education our organised taster days are to provide local schools with a firsthand experience of apprenticeships. Recently, the Portchester Centre’s Business Development and Recruitment Coordinator for Apprenticeships, Caroline, went along with a team trainer for gas and plumbing apprenticeships, Adam, and conducted one of these sessions at Cams Hill School, Fareham.
The taster session began with a 10–15-minute presentation, where pupils were introduced to the concept of apprenticeships and the exciting opportunities available in the field of gas and heating engineering. The presentation aimed to provide pupils with a comprehensive understanding of the benefits and potential career paths associated with apprenticeships.
Following the presentation, the pupils participated in a practical session led by Steve Willis Training Centres’ experienced trainer, Adam. This hands-on exercise allowed the students to gain practical skills in a controlled environment. The engaging nature of the session ensured that all students were actively involved and enjoyed the experience.
The taster day received an overwhelmingly positive response from the pupils. They actively participated in the practical exercises and demonstrated enthusiasm for the subject matter. The interactive nature of the session allowed them to explore their interests and potential career paths in gas and heating engineering.
To further nurture the students’ interest, Steve Willis Training Centres provided them with information about upcoming open days. The hope is that the students will attend these open days and continue their journey towards a rewarding career in the field.
Emily Vadis – Careers Co-ordinator at Cams Hill School –
“Thank you so much for coming in, it was brilliant to see pupils so engaged in an activity so was 100% worth it!”
By combining informative presentations with practical sessions, the taster sessions have effectively engaged pupils and ignited their interest in apprenticeships and gas and heating engineering. With upcoming open days on the horizon, Steve Willis Training Centres eagerly anticipates continued student involvement and the opportunity to shape the future of aspiring apprentices in the industry.
